Gallery Talk: What is contemporary Chinese art?

The Marengo Gallery will be hosting a free talk by Dr. Meiqin Wang, an Asian Art professor at CSUN who specializes in modern and contemporary Chinese art. The purpose of the talk is to provide visitors with a basic understanding of contemporary art in China starting at the end of the Cultural Revolution and continuing into the present.

GALLERY TALK: CHINESE LANDSCAPE PAINTING

The Marengo Gallery is pleased to announce a gallery talk of Chinese landscape painting by Molly Endholm, who is the art history lecturer at CSUN. The talk will mainly concentrates on Chinese landscape painting from Tang dynasty to the present. It aims to give the audience a basic understanding of Chinese landscape painting and stimulate the interests in Chinese art. The event is free and open to the public. Don’t hesitate to come!

Gallery Tour: China Then and Now

September 30th 1pm

In conjunction with the gallery’s current exhibit, China Then and Now, the Gallery Manager will be leading a walkthrough of the exhibit on September 30th at 1pm. She will start by giving an introduction to contemporary Chinese art and then she will provide context for the paintings in the exhibition.

OPENING RECEPTION: CHANGING LANDSCAPES

The Marengo Gallery is pleased to present Changing Landscapes, a group exhibition featuring recent works by Yang De Yu, Xu Ze, and He Ming Ke. In the exhibition, the artists show the effects of modernity on Chinese landscape painting, the natural Chinese landscape, and traditional Chinese values. In keeping with the tradition of Chinese landscape painting, the artists do not depict real landscapes, instead arranging natural elements to express their own philosophical attitudes toward nature, spirituality, and modernity.
